The Cult of Busy/RP
A nice, organized cult/method to facilitate small group Roleplaying in FFXIV
...what?
The slash command /busy will change your icon to the Busy symbol, /roleplaying will change it to RP. These two states can be used a flag system to indicate typing versus listening, easing flow of RP and anxiety as people know when someone else is typing and to just wait a moment, and also that they are engaged and haven't wandered off or fallen asleep.
Create two macros: one with /busy and one with /roleplaying. You can make them fancy with icons to let you know which is which.
Assign these macros to a hotbar. Unfortunately they take up two spaces and I haven't figured out a good way to do it otherwise.
When you're ready to type a response, look around and see if anyone is is flagged busy meaning they are already typing. If no one is, press the /busy macro. The icon above your name looks very worried about what they're doing.
When you are done and "listening" for a response and not typing, press the /roleplaying macro. This keeps you in the scene like the other roleplayers.
